longstripe, the thunderclan deputy, walked out of the warriors den, yawned and stretched. today was perfect. hot with a cool breeze, no clouds, lush plants. a perfect day for hunting. he glanced towards the nursery. the queens in there probably hadn't been out for a long time. maybe he should ask if they wanted to hunt.
longstripe shrugged, pushing his broad shoulders into the den. his pale green eyes searched for a she-cat, landing on breezefur, the hey tabby queen. he smiled, nodding her way. "good morning, breezefur," he mewed, dipping his head. "i was wondering if you'd like to go on a hunt?" he suggested.

[so many threads]The hey tabby she-cat was enjoying the warm day, though also using the shade from the protective nursery roof. Her ears perked when she heard a voice saying her name. "Good morning, Longstripe." Breezefur replied, dipping her head in greeting as well as respect. She stood up, stretching, then blinked when she heard his offer.
"Sure." She'd been hunting not too long ago, but there wasn't really anything to do in the nursery anyway, since there were no kits. "A hunt would be nice." She added, as she padded towards the nursery entrance.

[oops. stupid correction thing.]
longstripe smiled. he started towards the entrance, his long fluffy tail whisking behind him. "it must be annoying, bieng cooped up in the nursery and all. especially when there's kits." he laughed, rolling his shoulder under his long pelt. he reached the entrance, relishing the fresh air emanating from the trees, the leaves giving it a certain scent. "you can choose where we hunt. or, if you want we can check the borders."

She rolled her eyes. "You can't imagine how annoying it is ... There aren't any kits right now, which is sort of a good thing, I guess. Just to take a break from the noise. But it does feel rather empty." Breezefur cut off any further sentences, knowing she'd start rambling, since her previous words really hadn't had any point. For a moment, she followed the deputy silently into the territory. "I can't really think of anywhere in particular. How about somewhere with water? There's bound to be plenty of prey there, what with the warm weather." Well, since it was Greenleaf, there was bound to be prey everywhere ...

longstripe nodded in agreement. "it's good to have a break from your duties once in a while." he mewed in agreement, twitching his long whiskers, relating to himself having duties as a deputy. "sure. feel free to lead the way," he purred, motioning with his head for her to go in front. sometimes it was good to take a break and hunt with clanmates.

Breezefur nodded in agreement, then started walking forward to lead them. She paused for a moment, trying to think of a water source, and started forward again when she remembered a small creek that she'd hunted at a while ago. It wasn't too far away, and she could soon hear the sound of rushing water.

longstripe followed breezefur, wrapped in silence. birds twittered to each other in the treetops, and mice and miles skittered under the soft soil. soon the sounds of water filled his tabby ear, trickling and rushing. his ears pricked with excitement, as they reached the creek. he scented the air, catching squirrel-scent. he glanced at breezefur, noting how pretty she looked at that moment, with sun dappled on her tabby fur. "squirrel," he whispered, jerking his muzzle to a tree, close to the water.

The creek soon after came into view, and she paused as she scented. Before she could really catch anything, Longstripe pointed out a squirrel. Breezefur followed his gesture to a young, but sturdy, tree growing on the bank of the creek. She blinked, hesitating for a moment, wondering if she was expected to catch the squirrel. Then she realized that he probably wouldn't have alerted her if she wasn't expected to, and that the longer she spent pondering it, the more likely it was that the squirrel was going to escape.
Even though they were still some distance away, Breezefur dropped into a crouch anyway, just in case. It would probably take longer to get to the tree, but she thought of being quieter better than being faster. The tree wasn't very tall, and it wasn't like the squirrel would have anywhere to go while she was slowly making her way to the tree. As she did reach it, she bunched her haunches and jumped part way up the tree, to clear some of the distance easily. Her claws dug into the bark as she slowly climbed up.
The squirrel was on one of the lower branches, and from what she could see, eating something. As she reached the point where the branch connected with the tree trunk, she straightened up and flashed out a paw to hold it down while she bent forward to give it a killing bite. The squirrel fell limp, and Breezefur glanced down to the ground, quickly deciding that she could make a jump. The fresh-kill in mouth, she leaped off the branch, landing with a thud on the ground.

longstripe watched breezefur, his pale green eyes glinting with approval. when she jumped down, the squirrel limp in her mouth, he purred, his long tail swooshing through the air. "that was amazing," he complimented, sniffing the squirrel. it had been cleanly killed, and was quite young and plump. good. it wasn't one of those old sinewy, gross ones with no meat. someone would eat well.
he tasted the air, many scents flowing into his parted jaws. the first prey scent he caught, was bird. his eyes darted around the clearing, to see a thrush pecking at the soil. he ficked his tail to the bird. "let's creep up on it. scare it towards me, and i'll kill it," he whispered, jumping over the creek silently, farther down from the bird so it wouldn't hear. he then crept up on it, waiting for breezefur. the bird didn't even notice, because it was to busy pecking at a worm.
[do you have a vww account?]

[yup.] She nodded when she heard the deputy's compliment. She dropped the squirrel at her paws. "Thanks." Breezefur quickly scraped away some dirt to create a hole, then pushed it back over the fresh-kill to bury it. When she finished, she looked up to hear Lonstripe's next words. She quickly caught sight of the bird, then waited for the tom to get ready.
Then she started approaching the feathered creature, trying to be silent for now. When she was close enough, Breezefur let out a sudden yelp, and lunged at the bird, though purposely missing. She watched with relief as it started fluttering in the direction of where Longstripe was waiting.

longstripe crouched, his haunches starting to ache, until breezefur finally crept towards the thrush. she yelped, missing the bird, which flew right into his waiting paws. waiting to kill. he grabbed its wing with his claws, then bit it's neck quickly, while pinning its wings under his paws. a sudden thought made him shiver. i wonder what it would be like if we were the prey, with bigger things hunting us, where we have almost no chance, he shuddered, but pushed the thought away, scraping dirt over the brown feathered bird. he looked up at breezefur's green eyes, smiling. "we make a good team."

Breezefur stood to the side, watching the deputy swiftly kill the bird, confusion temporarily filling her when he hesitated and shuddered, then relaxed again when he started moving and burying the bird. She blinked when she heard his words. "We make a good team." "Well ... for my part, it's not that hard to yell and purposely fail a pounce." She said, joking, and smiling at Longstripe.

longstripe shrugged, a grin spreading across his muzzle. "ha, ha. well, it could have gone the other way. next time, i'll scare it to you," he laughed, flicking his tail at the queen. he waited, this time he'd let the she-cat look for prey. he flicked his tail tip, looking up at the green treetops above.

She grinned at him, then turned away slightly, jaws parted to scent for prey. Soon, the scent of mouse hit her. Wow, there's a lot of prey today. Breezefur commented to herself, though it did make sense since it was Greenleaf. She glanced back to Longstripe, who was looking up, and decided she'd just make the catch. The longer they took, the more chance there was of the prey noticing them and running off.
The dark tabby eased into a crouch, and slowly slid her paws over the ground, careful not to brush anything that might've been growing or sticking out of the ground. When she was about a tail-length away, Breezefur tensed, then pounced. Her paw caught the mouse square on the back, and the impact broke its spine, killing it. She bent down to pick it up between her jaws and walked back to Longstripe before dropping it on the ground and digging a hole for it. It's nice to know all those hunting lessons I had still come into use.

longstripe looked back at breezefur, as she was creeping up on the mouse. so much for me scaring it towards her, he thought shrugging, but watched her catch the mouse anyways. it's fur was a brown and soft, with beady black eyes. "nice catch," a purr rumbled in his throat. then he looked towards the left, dew covered fern fronds and bracken vines. "i was thinking we could check the border. just in case," he suggested, nodding his head towards the border.
